On Friday, July 25, 2025, press, community leaders, and local residents gathered to hear updates on phase three of the North Carolina History Center on the Civil War, Emancipation & Reconstruction. Mac Healy, board chair of NCHC, discussed the upcoming construction phase and the steps it took to get to this point. Pamela Brewington Cashwell, the secretary of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources spoke about the importance of this overlooked part of the state’s history. Adam Brakenbury from Vines Architecture also provided a briefing on the project’s processes and the next steps moving forward.
