We would like to first thank you all for your continued dedication and support of the North Carolina History Center on the Civil War Emancipation & Reconstruction. Construction progress continues, and we are excited to share some news that has developed since our last update.
In late May, the Ghost Tower at Arsenal Park was relocated to the southwestern corner of the former Arsenal near the VanStory History Village to increase its visibility. It is currently resting in a temporary zone and will be permanently relocated above the southwestern tower ruins once the surrounding work is completed. At the main history center building on the north end of the park, roof installation is progressing alongside the galvanized steel supports that will hold a decorative aluminum panel screen wall system along the building’s perimeter. Window panels, brick, and sheathing on all sides of the building are also enclosing the open space. In the building’s interior, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are being installed, including essential HVAC, sprinkler, and fire alarm systems.
The park is now an active construction zone, so we recommend steering clear of the area for the time being to allow for work on the future pathways. While all this progress is underway, our fabricators are diligently constructing exhibits. To sum it up, several moving parts are happening simultaneously. We thank you all for your continued patience, generosity, and excitement as we take yet another leap toward our opening.
