Dear Friends:
We would like to once again thank you all for your continued support for the North Carolina History Center on the Civil War, Emancipation & Reconstruction. Progress continues to advance and we are excited to share construction news that has developed since our last update.
Firstly, the main building is about 90% closed in with all glass panels in place. Work in the interior of the structure is ongoing. This includes framing, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work. In addition to this progress, the exterior brick veneere work is nearly complete on all sides of the building. Moving on to the very top of the building, the roofing membrane for the entire structure is now completed, and work on the green roof is expected to begin soon.
Furthermore, progress on site grading is currently underway. On the north end, a new parking lot will be installed, alongside new stormwater upgrades, sidewalks, curb, and gutter on Myrover Street. Lastly, pathways and sidewalks through the park are now being constructed. As a result of this construction, the park is now temporarily closed, with fencing and signage sealing off the area to the public. We understand that this is an inconvenience and we will keep you updated as to when the park will reopen for public use.
