AUTHOR:  James Franklin

According to the 1860 US Census, Lewis Franklin lived in Burke County, NC, with his wife “Fanny” Perlina and their children: Sidney S. (5), Julia A. (2), and Alfred N. (9 months old). On September 22, 1862, at the age of 33, he enlisted into Company B, 6th NC Infantry of the Confederate States Army. On November 7, 1863, Franklin was taken prisoner at Rappahannock Station in Virginia. He was confined at Point Lookout, MD, then in November 1864, he was transferred to Venus Point, GA, and exchanged.
