Samuel Sawyer and his brother Charles were in the 32nd North Carolina regiment under Pettigrew. My line is Samuel. He and his brothers’ names are on the Confederate monument in Columbia. Charles was taken prisoner and put in Elmira prison in New York where he died. Both fought at Gettysburg (Picketts Charge). Samuel came home from the war having lost one arm. He then worked at summerset place, and he met and married his wife Susan. Rothchild Antiques has 2 letters written by the Sawyer boys.
