Private Survived War and Elmira

Daniel James Allen, a private in the Confederate Army, enlisted at 18 years of age. He was captured at Fort Fisher on January 15, 1865. He was confined at Elmira, N.Y. and was released after taking the Oath of Allegiance on August 7, 1865.
