Macklin Southard was born 1824 and was the son of James and Ruth Gilliam Southard. He was a private in the 45th North Carolina Regiment called the Madison Greys. He resided in Rockingham County, NC. He was married to Jane Hutchinson on 2 February 1849. He enlisted in Rockingham County on April 1, 1863. He was present and accounted for until killed at or near Spotsylvania Court House in Virginia on May 10, 1864.
