Abel Reid Pitts was born to John Henry and Sarah Lolly Rogers Pitts on 30 August, 1826 in Lincoln Co., NC. Abel later lived in Burke Co and enlisted in Catawba Co into Co K, NC 35th Infantry Regiment as a private, age 36, on 15 October, 1861 for the war. Present or accounted for during November, 1864-February, 1865. Captured near Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1865. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 16, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance. Abel is my 2nd great-uncle.
