These pictures are of an order granting permission for John N. Jackson to sell Harriet and her son, Thomas, who were two individuals who were enslaved by Jackson’s ward, Mary J. Bagget [also spelled Baggett]. (See photos below. Click to enlarge.)

The petition was heard by the Sampson County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions during its November 1863 Term, and the Court granted permission for Jackson to sell Harriet and Thomas if Jackson announced his intentions at three or more public places for no less than ten days.
