Young, who was born in 1834 to Henry and Lavenia Martin Young in Catawba County, North Carolina. Peter enlisted in Burke County on May 10, 1861 as a private. He joined Company E, N.C. 16th Infantry Regiment. Peter died at Gettysburg, Pa., mustering out July 8, 1863. He was 29 years old.
